Our tree last year--I hope that this year's will be just as beautiful! |
This holiday my family and I are putting up our tree on the later side of our usual timespan, due to some unforeseen technical difficulties! We had decided this year to buy an artificial tree instead of a fresh one, so we could leave it up as long as we liked and use our living room fireplace without fear of drying the tree out. We researched carefully to find a tree that both looked realistic and was made without some of the harsher chemicals typically used in artificial trees, and ordered one that seemed suitable. Unfortunately, the tree had a plastic odor that gave my mother a headache, and handling it gave me a rash, so tomorrow morning my father will be bringing home a fresh tree from a local tree farm.
All in all, I can't say that I'm too disappointed at this turn of events, except for the delay that it's caused in finishing our Christmas decorating. While some aspects of having an artificial tree were appealing, in my heart of hearts I still prefer the look, the scent, and the symbolism of having a real tree for Christmas. I'm looking forward to having one back tomorrow!
