Blogmas Day 2: Festive Tag

Our mantlepiece last year

The first day of December got off to rather an odd start where I live, with an unusually warm high temperature of 67 degrees. Luckily since then it's gotten much colder and cloudier, and therefore feeling more like Christmas to me. My family and I put out some Christmas-themed books and hung up our advent calendar last night, but while the darker weather feels more wintry it also means that the lighting was too poor for me to take any pictures. I'll try to take some when it's a bit brighter, perhaps later this week.

Until then, I thought I'd share some of my other Christmas traditions by answering questions from the Festive Tag! I took these ten questions from fifteen total in a video by Carrie Hope Fletcher, but I'm not sure if she's the originator of the tag. Anyway, here we go!

1. Favorite festive food

My mother and I make certain special kinds of cookies each year for Christmas, and my favorites of them are raspberry jam thumbprints. We've used a variety of recipes over the years, including ones with citrus-flavored dough, almond-flavored dough, and dough made with ground almonds, and I enjoy all of them equally.

2. Favorite day from "The Twelve Days of Christmas"

I had a picture book version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" when I was little, and I always liked the picture of nine ladies dancing in their formal finery the best.

3. Favorite Christmas song

Choosing just one is very difficult! From when I was little I always liked the song version of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" by the Harry Simeone Chorale, but since then my favorite Christmas album overall has become John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together. I particularly love "The Peace Carol," "Noel: Christmas Eve, 1913" and "The Christmas Wish" from that album, so it might be a three-way tie between those.

4. Favorite Christmas present

I've been fortunate enough to have received many wonderful Christmas presents over the years, so choosing just one for this question is difficult as well. One of the most special presents I got was a silver heart-shaped locket with an amethyst in the middle, a gift from my parents and the first real piece of jewelry I've ever owned.

5. Favorite Christmas film

This one is easy--it's absolutely The Muppet Christmas Carol!
6. Favorite Christmas decoration

Other than our Christmas tree, I've really come to love our miniature Christmas village inspired by Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Miniature things fascinate me, and we always take care to arrange our village in a detailed and realistic scene.

7. Favorite candle scent

We don't use scented candles that often at home, but my favorites have always been the fragrances inspired by holiday baking like vanilla, cookies, and apple cider.

8. Favorite Christmas tradition

Watching Christmas movies and shows with my family, including watching The Muppet Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve.

9. Favorite place to spend Christmas

I've only ever spent Christmas at home, and it's the only place I can ever imagine spending it.

10. Favorite Christmas fact

I can usually impress people with my knowledge that the carol "Good King Wenceslas" takes place on December 26th, Boxing Day or "The Feast of Stephen."

Hopefully tomorrow I can share some photos from this year instead of relying on last year's batch, but even if not I'll be back with a new post!
